Filmed in October, in the Dominican Republic, the one-hour DVD shows the ideas of four self-defence lecturers, whose background is in judo.
“There are interesting techniques taught in Judo for Self Defence,” said FF Director Simon Hicks, “which can be tested out or used to generate other ideas for all judo coaches.”
Judo for Self Defence was shot in the build-up to the 2006 Junior World Championships, which was hosted in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
The four lecturers all have their separate target audiences, from self-defence taught to children, to the training methods that are taught to the Iranian police.
Yasuhiro Yamashita, the IJF Education and Coaching Director, commissioned the DVD, and will be launching it at the beginning of April.
By promoting judo as a form of self-defence, Yamashita’s aim is to keep more people involved in the sport of judo.
Judo for Self Defence will be dual language (English and French), and will have extra features, including a highlight sequence from the 2006 Junior Worlds, and trailers of other Fighting Films DVDs.
