After the big success of the women’s event in April 2006, this year promises to be even better, with a live show and big screen being incorporated into the weekend tournament.
“Everyone at the event can be part of a live theatrical show,” said FF Director Danny Hicks. “The big screen will show highlights from last year’s event, biographies and highlights of the British fighters, judo to music, and live judo action.”
With 2007 being Olympic qualification year, every team will send bigger and better squads. Those fortunate to be in the NIA on 22nd and 23rd September will be able to see some of the best judo players in the World.
As host nation, Great Britain is allowed up to four entries in each weight category. It means that not only will the best seniors be in action, like World Champion Craig Fallon and European bronze medalist Winston Gordon, but also the up-and-coming fighters will be displaying their tatlents.
At this early stage several European countries have already confirmed teams for September, with other nations from Asia and Pan-America soon to follow.
Fighting Films, will once again be integral to the look of the event. Last year they edited a 30 minute programme for Sky Sports. This year it will be a one hour of judo on prime-time Sky Sports, which will be broadcasted the following week.
A live mix will be shown on the big screen, which means that everytime a major score occurs, replays from different angles will follow immediately.
Tickets for the Fighting Films GB Judo World Cup can be ordered from the British Judo Association (www.britishjudo.org.uk).
