Tip 4- The Best Defence is a good Offence

Although some judoka consider an all out attacking style to be risky, Inoue doesn’t agree. When fighting both in International competitions and in Japan, he always thought it best to continue pushing for ippon and to win the fight on his own terms. If you relax and take your foot of the gas, allowing an opponent to get a good grip for example, this takes control out of your hands as you have to rely on your opponent not being good enough to throw you. Inoue therefore never allows an opponent to get a strong grip and always moves and attacks before they settle. It’s because of this attitude that Inoue says he was able to retire from competitive judo with no regrets.
